I absolutely love swimming, and I am not someone who gets self conscious about being an overweight woman in swimwear. What does bug me about plus size swimwear is the price tag that can often be associated with it. However I know that good quality swimwear for plus size women doesn't have to come at a premium. In this blog post I am going to share ways to save money on plus size swimwear.

Choosing the swimwear to suit you

There are a few options when it comes to choosing swimwear. You have the one-piece swimsuit, a bikini, a tankini or a swim dress. There is no right or wrong, it is about finding what works for you. One-piece swimming costumes just do not work for me. My body shape means a lot of my weight it around my middle, so finding a swimsuit that fits there means it is baggy in other places. Especially around the bust which isn't appropriate for public viewing! I don't like the feel of a swim dress, so that has left me with two options – bikinis and tankinis.

My personal preference is a bikini for our own private villa, and a tankini for water parks, the beach or when we have other people holidaying with us.

Finding the right size for your plus size swimwear

I love bikinis and tankinis because I can choose different sizes for the tops and bottoms, which suits my body shape perfectly!

Getting the sizing right on swimwear is really important – for example if your bra cup is gaping or wrinkling then you should try a smaller cup size, if the straps are digging into your shoulder then you need to loosen the straps.

You can save money on plus size swimwear by getting the size right – you know exactly what size to get to suit your body shape so you won't be buying items you can't use.

Shop around to save money on plus size swimwear

Good quality swimwear, especially in plus sizes, can command quite a high price, but if you are a savvy shopper then you can save money.

Simply shopping around for your plus size swimwear can show you where some great bargains are. For example, some supermarkets stock swim wear up to size 24.

Care for your swimwear properly

If you take care of your swimwear properly then you won't need to replace it as often.

Washing swimwear after every wear (even if you haven't been in any water), washing by hand and not using a tumble dryer will all help your swimsuit to last.

Shop for plus size swimwear in the sales

Towards the end of summer is a great time for picking up plus size swimwear on sale, as shops move over to their autumn and winter wear.

Plus size swimwear from JD Williams

JD Williams recently got in touch to see if I would like to review some of their plus size swimwear (click here to see the selection they have), and of course I took them up on their offer.

There were so many great pieces to choose from, and I had to choose the red polka dot bikini because it reminds me so much of Disneyworld. In fact I spotted a similar looking bikini in Torrid earlier this year whilst on holiday in Orlando, but it was over £150! Insane!

This combo is also available with a tankini top if a bikini top isn't your thing.

I also wanted to try some Joe Browns swimwear, so I chose this swimsuit and this beach dress to pair with it.

I fully admit to having already searched for flights to Orlando so that I can wear the polka dot bikini in Disneyworld! It feels comfortable to wear, and I love being able to adjust the top to give more support. It also feels very sturdy, although I haven't gone down a water slide in it yet!
