However, it is true that you can find your calling in life if you look hard enough, and it won’t necessarily mean having to meditate at the top of a mountain to do it.
The whole idea behind finding your life’s calling is to find out what it is that makes you get up in the morning, smile and look forward to the day. It could be that you want to be surrounded by the people you love, you want to travel the world and help conservation projects, or you simply want to sell your first piece of art. Finding that one thing which makes you get up in the morning is the best thing you can ever do for yourself, so here are some ways to do it…

There are always small signs throughout your life which tell you what it is that you should be doing do the rest of your life. For example, even if you have been pushed into a certain career from being in school, you might have always been a creative person who loves to write. Why not take that chance and try to write something? It could be a blog, a short story or a novel. You can self publish you work and see whether this was what you were meant to do. It could be the wake up call you need to change your ways.
2. Prioritize fun
If you want to be able to truly express who you are, you need to make time to do the things you love. Take the time to fit your hobbies into your schedule. It will not only make you feel less stressed, but it could be the kick you need to change up your lifestyle a little.
- Think about what you loved as a child
A lot of the time you will find that the thing you love the most is what you used to love as a child. Find out what you loved as a child and try to rediscover them. You could find that you know what you want to spend the rest of your life doing.
- What makes you happy?
When you are doing something or reading about something, what makes you happy? If you think back to something you did or somewhere you travelled, did it make you feel good inside? You might find that you work in an office job day by day, and it is the time when you are out in the garden that makes you happy. Follow what makes you feel fuzzy inside to find what you love.
- Turn down distractions
If you do find yourself stuck in a bit of a rut in your life, you will never find your calling you are constantly distracted. Turn off the tv and put your phone down now and again to think about your life and how you imagine it to be. The shower is usually a good place to think about your life, so take the time every morning or evening to think about where you want to be in your life in a year. If you find that you want to be in a different job or living somewhere else, you may want to action these things and make a change. Life is too short to not be happy.
- Pay attention
In your life there will be a huge number of hobbies that will come and go. It is important for you to remember which hobbies seem to come back throughout your life. You may have loved wildlife as a child but in your teens it was forgotten, in your twenties you might buy a home and start to make the most of wildlife again. This is a sign that wildlife is something you could look to pursue in one way or the other. Think of the things which drift in and out of your life. If they never seem to leave, there might be a reason.
- Trust your instincts
It is incredibly important that you trust your gut, even if everyone else in your life is telling you that it is madness. You could look on a site like Adzuna and find out that you are being severely underpaid for your job. If you feel this is true, move on and find new things. Don’t let anyone drag you down and tell you that it is impractical. Trust what you know and trust that you can make the best decision for yourself.
If you decide one day that you want to quit your job and move away to look after animals, don’t let anyone stop you. It doesn't matter what everyone else thinks. You need to be happy and content with your life and decisions. Be brave and follow your dreams, and you will find your calling in life.
- Connect with the outside world
If you are always in the office or at home during the week, it can be incredibly helpful to take yourself away from the norm and out into the world for a while. Take a walk in the park, do some yoga or even meditate. If you take yourself away from what you know, you will start to look at your life from the outside and view it differently. You may decide that your problems aren’t all that they seem, that the job you are staying in isn’t worth it, or the hobby you love so much could be who you are.
