I am always looking at ways to save money on our groceries, whether it be through meal planning or visiting the reduced shelf. When I heard about a website where you can save up to 70% off the RRP of groceries and other household objects, I knew that I was on to a winner. That website is Approved Food.
Who are Approved Food?
Did you know that every year in the UK there are over 7 million tonnes of food and drink thrown away? A lot of it has past its “best before” date, but it would have still been fine to eat! Approved Food are trying to bridge this gap by providing customers with massive savings on food and drink (typically £60 a month, over £700 a year) and helping to reduce unnecessary food waste.
Approved Food have over 2,000 products made up from big brands, ex-supermarket and department store stock and so much more. There is new stock added constantly, so when you see a deal it is a good idea to grab it there and then. Products are delivered directly to your door, making it a hassle free way to shop.
Is it safe to eat out of date food?
Yes, you can eat food that is past the “best before” date! Some of the products on Approved Food are past their “best before” date, which is a date that the manufacturers estimate when the premium quality of their product(s) might start to deteriorate. Not to be confused with “use by” dates, which are on fresh products like meat, salads and dairy. Foods that are after their best before dates might lose a bit of their texture or flavour, but they are perfectly safe to consume.
How much can you save with Approved Food?
A lot! You can save up to 70% on the RRP of the products on offer – there are some unknown brands as well as top names. Regular shoppers can save around £60 a month, which is over £700 per year. Here are some examples I've found, compared to supermarkets and other online retailers:

My experience with Approved Food
Approved Food kindly added some credit to my account to spend with them in order to test out their products and their services. We have recently moved home and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to restock our cupboards with the essentials, as well as a few treats.
Navigating the website was really easy – I could either browse the categories including the daily deals, find items by the case load or search for brands I know and love. The daily deals are often worth a look – we managed to get a big box of Thorntons chocolate for just 1p.
You can also filter for items that are still in date if you really cannot bring yourself to eat items out of date.
The delivery was smooth – Yodel delivered three large boxes to our front door and everything was really well packaged. There were no breakages in the stuff we received.
I chose a varied selection of items to stock our cupboards and keep our cats well fed, and I am absolutely blown away that this lot came to just over £70 including delivery. We haven’t even made a dent in this delivery yet because there are so many amazing things in it! I grabbed a mixture of branded names and brands I hadn't heard of. I am especially pleased that the cats are enjoying their 5 bags of cat biscuits, especially as they have been fussy lately!
